Choosing invitations for our Thanksgiving Dinner . When we decided to host Thanksgiving at our house this year, I was overcome with both excitement and nerves. We have been married for over a year, but we haven't really hosted any sort of party, big or small. I want our home to be filled with memories of love and family, and I thought what better way than to invite both of our separate families to come together in our new home and celebrate Thanksgiving.Now, Thanksgiving has never really been a big holiday in my family. Not really many traditions. I don't really even like Thanksgiving food (and neither does my sister, what is wrong with us?) But my husband and I want to create new traditions. I have a sense of what I want the party to be like, and I also know that our families will come in with expectations of their own. I thought it might be smart to set an expectation of what they will be getting themselves into with an invitation, which is something they really wouldn't think would be coming. They'd be satisfied with a phone call as an invitation, and maybe a follow-up a week ahead of time to ask for a certain side dish or dessert. No phone calls will do. It's special to us to have them here, and we want it to be a special day. Invitations help spread that message.I ordered the invitations through Minted, who did a fantastic job, as they always do. On somewhat of a side note, I was adamant that our hyphenated family name be visible. I haven't taken my husband's name and it bothers me that this isn't widely known.  gomighty.com
